Daily Telegraph Article

Back in October we had the pleasure of Michael Kerr, Deputy Editor of Travel for the Daily Telegraph on our Southern Catalonia short break - shown here

'The tractor splashed across the stubble of the paddy, its rear end a blur of flapping wings and pecking beaks. Behind it were grey herons, little egrets, lapwings and hundreds of gulls – yellow-legged, lesser black-backed and Audouin's, one of the most endangered gulls in the world. Here, in one image, was the Ebro Delta: a water land of rice and birds......... '

We have just completed our first Valencia Short Break of 2012 and again it delivered lots of great memories for the lucky few who joined me for this week. Highlights included - 2 Greater Spotted Eagles, 2 Bonelli's Eagles, Golden Eagle, several Booted Eagles, 58 Great Bustards, 71 Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, 16 Black-bellied Sandgrouse, 2 Spotted Crakes, Glossy Ibis, Spoonbills, Slender-billed & Audouin's Gulls, Caspian Terns, Black Wheatear, lots of Bluethroats, Water Pipits, waders and wildfowl. SUPERB.

Iberian Lynx in Andalucia

Julian Sykes Wildlife Holidays has completed three trips to the Sierra de Andujar from late January through to mid-February. It was very successful  despite suffering colder than average temperatures (as low as -8oC!) in the day. Of the nine full days we spent on the natural park we had Lynx sightings on six of these, which was fabulous.

Not only did we get views of this iconic and rare cat we also saw lots of Mouflon, Red and Fallow Deer, an occassional River Otter, Greater mouse-eared and Schreiber's Bats, and two incredibly lucky couples saw a Wild Cat near the accommodation! We got incredible views of Spanish Imperial and Golden Eagles, Goshawk, Black Vultures, Wryneck, Firecrest, Iberian Magpies etc and even a Lesser Flamingo (all three trips) and on one day a Ruppell's Vulture at a carcass.

Thank you to Mrs M. Braddock (Firecrest, Greater Mouse-eared Bat) and Mrs C. Maughan (Iberian Lynx, Moufflon) for allowing Julian Sykes Wildlife to use their excellent images.
